I’ve never been morbidly obese but it’s in my genetics. I grew up watching my grandma go through Type 2 diabetes. She didn’t have the knowledge or education to change her habits and eventually found herself a Type 1. Whether it was the side-effects of diabetes or a lifetime of hard work, she ended up with many joints replaced and fused bones.
Her health didn’t really affect me until I realized my mom was following in her steps. While my mom has several replaced joints and Type 2 diabetes, I’m in a position to help her.
I recognize the effects of food on our systems which lead to inflammation and weight gain. With this knowledge, I’m working with her to make healthy food choices to help her control her blood sugar and lose weight.
